Persons with disabilities

Our work on the rights of persons with disabilities focuses on the global research and promotion of policy solutions, which contribute to better living conditions of persons with disabilities.

We provide information about policies with a rights-based approach to disability and promote this knowledge by engaging a broad variety of stakeholders at the international level, including governments, parliamentarians, civil servants, NGOs and DPOs, foundations, academics, the private sector and the media, and by working in several languages.

Zero Project

One billion people live with a disability worldwide. In May 2008 the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD) entered into force and highlighted the importance of an inclusive society, in which persons with disabilities actively participate in the political, economic, social and cultural life. To advance the implementation of the UN CRPD, the World Future Council partnered with the Essl Foundation‘s Zero Project – For a world without barriers from 2011-2017.

Together, we built up a global network of over 3,000 disability experts and the team at the World Future Council researched close to 70 Innovative Policies in the fields of education, employment, accessibility, independent living and political participation that have advanced the rights and improved the lives of persons with disabilities for the better. These Innovative Policies have been presented, highlighted and discussed at six international Zero Project Conferences at the United Nations Office in Vienna that we have co-organized with the Essl Foundation. This three-day event typically brought together more than 500 participants from more than 70 countries.

We are currently fundraising to build on this excellent work. We wish to specifically step up our efforts on spreading the identified policies to other countries and regions in the world, by organizing interparliamentary hearings. Please contact us, if you wish to share suggestions, ideas, or you look for innovative partners in our common goal to leave no one behind.
